My Surly Cross Check build

I am very pleased with this Surly Cross Check I built last winter. Its steel frame absorbs bumps giving a smooth, still fast ride. It has all the fender, rack, and bottle cage mounts you’ll ever need (the 2011 version of the fork even has lowrider rack mounts which the pictured 2010 model lacks). I’ve ridden mine both with a Soma 3-speed moustache bar, and Nitto drops. Currently I run 1×8 gears with a Shimano bar end shifter in friction mode on the right hand bar end. To the left I have a mirror, since for security I really like mirrors in traffic. To add some luxury I have a Brooks B17 Special honey-coloured saddle and matching handle bar tape. The cranks and 44 tooth chainring are made by Sturmey-Archer. The mudguards are from the SKS chromoplastics line. This is a perfect commuter, a comfortable touring bike, and a great choice for century rides. I’ve ridden it some 3000km during this season, out of which 245 km during a single day.
